ST. PAUL, Minn. (KFGO) – All Minnesota police departments are now required to carry Narcan. The drug can reverse the effects of opioid overdoses. That includes heroin, fentanyl, and prescription opioid drugs. The Moorhead Police Dept. began to carry Narcan earlier this summer. The Moorhead Fire Dept., typically first to arrive on the scene of such calls, has used the drug for a number of years. Last year, Moorhead Police responded to 36 drug overdoses, six of which were fatal. The state Health Department reported a 43% increase in opioid-related overdose deaths statewide from 2020 to 2021.
